Appointments

Your first consultation appointment will last for half an hour, when we will make a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, jaws, and the soft tissues. We will normally take some Xrays, and the cost of these will be included in the consultation. We also take a detailed dental and medical history. You will be able to tell us of any concerns you may have, and if you are unhappy with anything about your mouth, what you would like to improve. If you are anxious about having treatment, please tell us as there are many ways we can help. Following your consultation we will send you a written report and costed treatment plan. Occasionally it may be necessary to see you again before a final treatment plan can be drawn up and if this is the case, we make no further charge for the review appointment.

Booking an appointment

Appointments can be made at the practice or by telephoning when we are open. Outside surgery hours, you can leave a message on our answering machine and we will contact you as soon as possible. Our receptionist is normally available from 8.45 to 12.30, and 1.30 till 5.30 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, and on Mondays from 9.00 to 1.00pm.

Emergencies

We always leave time free during the day for emergencies, but these times are allocated at different times on different days to allow flexibility within our appointment system. The emergency appointments are reserved for our regular patients, but we may sometimes be able to see a new patient as an emergency if a reserved appointment has been cancelled. We aim to see you on the same day whenever possible, and to help us do this, we ask that you call us before 10am for an appointment the same day. Please bear in mind that the most popular times for appointments are at the beginning and end of the day, and these are usually booked several weeks in advance.

Out of hours emergencies

Most dental emergencies are best dealt with during normal surgery hours, but if you are a registered patient of the practice and have a serious dental emergency and feel you cannot wait until the surgery re-opens, you can contact Melbourne for advice by phoning our answerphone, which will give details of how to contact her. There is no charge for telephone advice, but if the surgery is re-opened outside normal hours, a charge is payable. This charge can be reclaimed by patients who have joined one of our dental care plans. The Primary Care Trust is responsible for out of hours care for NHS patients and so if you are phoning on behalf of a child, you should contact Northern Doctors Urgent Care on 0845 6080324.

Cancellation policy

We ask that you try to give us at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or change an appointment. We will always try to re-allocate your appointment to another patient, but if we are unable to do so, we reserve the right to make a charge if less than 24 hours' notice is given.
